| Keonics Elerctronics City- First
of its Kind in India
The Government entrusted the work of establishing the Electronics
City on a 332 acres area in Konappana Agrahara and Doddathogur Village,
Begur Hobli Bangalore South Taluk in 1978 to KEONICS. The land was
acquired by KEONICS through KIADB. The Electronics City is very
ideally located in the National High Way 7, which has a 4 lane express
High Way, and leads to the industrial town of Hosur in Tamilnadu.
It is a 30 minutes drive as it is 18 kms from the heart of Bangalore
city. The Initiative to start Electronics City had been taken by
the then CMD of KEONICS Shri.R.K.Baliga.
The criterion for allotment was that the land should be used only
for Electronic or Information Technology related activities. Initially,
there was not much response from private electronic companies. Original
land allotment price was Rs.45,000/- per acre in the year 1982.
Gradually it was increased as demand for land increased. Land price
in 1990 was Rs.3.00 Lakhs per acre.
Now the allotment rate is Rs.36.00 lakhs per acre. Based on this,
major companies including MNCs have set up their factories here.
They are Birla 3M, Tata BP Solar, Fanuc, Moog, Motorola and Siemens,
Software majors like Infosys, Wipro and Public Sector Undertakings
like ITI Ltd., BHEL.
Further few Training Institutes has been set up like:

year 1982 has been provided with 10 acres of land. NTTF is imparting
Technical Training in Electronics to students in general category
as well as physically handicapped category.

is established by D.O.E. Government of India. It is imparting training
in the field higher end courses in computer education.

developed flats and it can accommodate 144 units covering electronic

is to over 14,000 professionals. The units post annual turn over
of over Rs.12,000 million and exports are to the tune of over Rs.7,000

KEONICS was earlier maintaining Electronics City. In 1997, in a
unique and novel experiment, the maintenance and upkeep of the city
was handed over to the Electronic City Industries Association, having
representatives from units in the enclave, for effective local governance
and management, by KEONICS. Prior to 1997 ELCIA had established
an excellent interaction with the authorities and earned a reputation
for sincerity of purpose. Through enterprising efforts, the ELCIA
soon overcame the problems of transport, Communications and Power
supply. ELCIA proposes to have Governing Council in the area and
also they wish to appoint an Administrator for proper development
upkeep and maintenance of the area.
KEONICS continues to approve the building plans, expansion activities
and other activities including giving of sale deeds.
KEONICS has been providing water to the units through its 9 bore
wells and there are two reservoirs in the area. Further through
BWSSB water is being provided and the infrastructure is ready.
There is also a green environment as trees have been planted along
side the roads. A strip of green belt is also maintained. Roads
have been formed in the area and at present Government has also
sanctioned Rs.2 crores to make the roads in Electronics City meet
International standards. The power requirement are being provided
by KPTCL and in addition the units have their own power generating
facilities. A dedicated telephone exchange is in operation within
the campus which was installed within capacity of 1000 lines, further
expanded to 2000 lines and at present the capacity of 4000 lines
is available.
As the I st Phase of the Electronic City is nearing completion,
II nd phase has been developed by K.I.A.D.B with an area 90 Acres,
which has also attracted lot of I.T firms. of late, Electronic City
